Ismail Dockrat is the CEO of Denel Integrated Systems and Maritime, the new Denel division. He has more than ten years' experience at CEO level. He was previously CEO of Denel Aerostructures (2010-2014), Denel Aviation (2007-2009), and Wesgro (2004-2006).
Previous positions include a stint at Trade and Investment South Africa as General Manager, and at Armscor as project manager in the aeronautics logistics division. He began his career at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Ismail holds a National Diploma in Electronics Engineering and completed his MBA at the University of Cape Town.
Mark's career began in the banking industry, where he spent six years at the South African Reserve Bank in economic research. While completing his MBA at University of Pretoria, he played a leading role in the establishment of Trade and Investment South Africa (TISA) division within The Department of Trade and Industry. This was shortly after the democratic transition of South Africa, and he facilitated the country's rapidly expanding trade links with the international economy especially in the mining, transport and aerospace sectors. He spent the next 11 years at Saab Grintek Defence's Electronic Warfare business unit and quickly progressed the position of Vice President: Strategy and Business Development at SAAB for the Sub Sahara Africa.
He is a well-known figure in the defence environment and serves on the Strategy and Planning committee of the SA Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industries Association (AMD) and on the Joint Aerospace Steering Committee convened by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Mark is currently Business Development Executive at Denel Integrated Systems and Maritime.
Shaun Matthews is the Executive Manager, Operations of Denel Integrated Systems and Maritime. In this role he is responsible for the division's Bid Teams as well as all commercial issues pertaining to business under development, as well as business that is committed.
Shaun was previously employed as a Submariner in the SA Navy from 1979 to 1989, then Thales (earlier known as UEC, then ADS, then Thales South Africa) from 1990 to 2012, and currently at Denel since March of 2012.
Whilst educating himself further and gaining engineering and management skills in his time at Thales, he was involved at programme management level in most of the Naval bids and programmes, both locally and abroad. This 23 year stint at Thales culminated in a period of working in Thales Netherlands (TNL) - Above Water Systems as a Bid Manager and Capture Team Leader for both TNL and Thales SA. In this period he developed numerous opportunities and landed three contracts with the Royal Thai Navy (3 Mission System programmes for 7 ships in total). These programmes were executed by Thales SA with support and technology transfer from TNL. Thereafter, Shaun returned home to set up a Business Capture and Bids Office for all Thales business in South Africa, both military and commercial.
Following his career at Thales, Shaun took up a position in Denel Integrated Systems Solutions (DISS), where he applied his experience in the role of Programme and Bid Manager, and assisted Denel with business development on new ventures as well. The above experience has resulted in Shaun being well known by the local Customer, Armscor, the local defence industry and numerous foreign suppliers.
